Appearance ⬤ ● • ⬤ ● ●•

Finn is an Octoling, the octarian version of an Inkling. He has light, peachy skin, orange eyes with yellow pupils in the shape of an infinity symbol (like octopuses in real life), two small eyelashes on each eye and curved eyebrows, resembling somewhat a horizontal half moon. His teeth are, like every other Octoling, asymmetrical. His hair resembles that of an angular fringe haircut and his fingers and toes are pointed and died turqouise at the tips.
His outfit consists of a casual, black T-shirt, a short, white jacket, black gloves exposing his fingers, a black bracelet on each hand, somewhat resembling a spiked collar but with flat orbs instead of spikes, white pants with a golden cube accessoire attached to his right pocket and black, white and red high top sneakers.

As an Octoling warrior, Finn sported a typical Octoling warrior uniform that consisted of black latex tight pants and top along with a pair of latex arm braces and black leather boots. Like every warrior, he occassionally wore a pair of the distinct Octoling goggles.

Personality and Traits ⬤ ● • ⬤ ● ●•

Finn notably stands out with his bubbly, energetic personality from the average Octoling. He possesses many traits that would be considered more common in Inklings rather than Octolings. In contrast to Dylan, he is much more into extroverted hobbies like constructing, working out, hiking and other outdoor or group activities. He is constantly in a good mood and remains a positive attitude even in stressful situations.
Finn is shown to have trouble focusing with his enormous amount of energy he has. He gets easily bored when there is nothing to do and has difficulties sitting still. Being unable to relax for long periods of time, listening to long lectures without getting impatient or letting himself get easily distracted are some examples of his hyperactivity. He himself mentioned that it's a habit from his past where he constantly has the urge to do something. Every time he finished his doings, he was immediately given another task, so resting was never an option as it would be considered slacking off. This strong need to be occupied 24/7 though causes Finn to push over his boundaries sometimes that forces Dylan to step him and make sure he gets rest he needs from making his body work overtime.

His strong liking for building robots, weapons, modifying vehicles and working out, have evolved from his soldier training in his past. Routine behavior that he is unable to get out of his system unlike other unhealthier ones he managed to unlearn. Military gadgets of any kind fascinated Finn from a young age with their complex construction process and usage, which is why he began his craftsmanship journey in octarian technology from an early age. He may have slacked when it came to school grades, but therefore showed exceptional talent when it came to coming up and building new machines and weaponry. His creativity and potential as a soldier quickly made him rise in ranks, but it was never enough to come to the elites as they were still superior against his fighting capabilities and that rank was reserved for females only.
Due to his lack of artistic abilities, which require patience and a steady hand that Finn did not aquire, he often had trouble creating blueprints for his robots which often ended up in him scrapping the designs as the drafters were also unable to understand Finn’s explanations. When Dylan came into process though, a lot of scrapped designs were made into fully functioning machinery, as he was able to understand Finn creative process. Finn is always very excited and proud to present his creations as they represent a great passion of his.

Other indirect relations from his past come from the way Finn likes his food prepared: simple but nutritious and stuffy, as represented from his favorite meals being something starch based like rice or potatoes with a side of protein like shrimps or chicken. He takes great value in knowing if a meal is nutritiously beneficial to him by knowing the approximate number of calories and nutrients of groceries. Finn is not necessarily fond of fancy and expensive meal as he doesn’t understand the need to plate something in such an artistic way if it’s going to be eaten anyway, unless you want to convey a secret message which is suspicions being an innuendo to how soldiers in real life have a great meal before they are sent off to war, unknowing if they will ever return. The only times Finn is seen dropping his positive demeanor is during battle. He becomes dead serious and immensely focused on his target like a predator stalks it's prey. His quick thinking, decision making and ace weapon handling in combat makes him a serious opponent.

Finn during his time in the Octarian army.

Chapter 1 - Early Life in the Octarian Army

Finn was born and raised in a special form of Octarian society called “Octolings from the south” which raised their warriors under more extreme conditions than their counterparts from Octo Valley or Octo Canyon. In the past, they were all part of the same Octarian society even before the great turf war started, until a few of the elites training their assigned corps were seen as too excruciating and cruel with the way the treated their soldiers and instead of changing their training methods, they moved far away into an uninhabited island to continue their extreme training process. Octolings from the south begin their training from early childhood years, are completely isolated from the outside world and are not allowed to engage in any activities in their already little freetime that would be considered fun if they did not benefit their warrior training. Their severe isolation and ban from non-military related after-training-activities is what makes these Octolings so cold and emotionless that the concept of fun and music is completely alien-like to them.
Further oppressive methods used against these soldiers were specialized shock collars all Octolings were forced to wear throughout the entire day that would discharge controlled shocks as punishment to unsatisfactory training performances or disobendience. They were also equiped with location tracking and a border system that limits their range to make escapes impossible. The spreading of misinformation about Inklings was also very popular to make their enemy be seen as more harmful than they actually are. Propaganda against Inklings included horror-story like myths such as: razor sharp ears can be used as a knife to cut thin metal, a stare that would turn you into stone if your met eyes with one, suckers from the inside of their tentacles to get a tight grasp on you so you can not escape while their vampriric teeth sink into your flesh sucking the ink out of you until you turn into octopus jerky. This level of brainwashing and fear was the only way to guarantee soldiers that would not fear the horrors of war and abide to any commands without question in the eyes of these elites. Even in the modern times, were Octolings and Inklings live in peace together, these Octolings continue their training as if they were living in the past to prepare for a war against inkling to get their turf back.

Under these circumstances, Finn was trained to become a soldier. He quickly learned that his little freetime should be used for education or physical training that would be considered beneficial to the military force instead of resting. Finn was always someone who would go over his limits until his body gave up because it was in his nature, which unintentionally saved him from the shocks of the collar, leaving no burn marks on his neck behind remembering the torture Octolings from the South go through each day. Additionally to his workaholic personality the elites liked to see, he showed exceptional talent in engineering and earned a high ranking postion with his creative designs and manufacturing of new machinery and weaponry. The official elite title was never given to him though, as it was only ever achieved by and reserved for females. He disliked the school and the theoretical aspects of soldier training, finding the long, boring lessons difficult to endure, having trouble to focus and stand still for hours at a time.

After living a few years as a high ranked engineer, Finn started to question a few things. How can his kind, which he always referred to as his family, hate a species they’ve never seen before so much that they are willing to go to war against it for seemingly no reason, especially when they look so much alike. Is there really no peaceful way to resolve everything? Questioning their system aloud would commonly be punished hardly, attempted escapes for doubters or freedom seekers would often result in a death penalty, so suspicions like these would quickly be pushed under the rug. Finn's doubtful thoughts remained inside of him, as to not risk potential punishment.

Chapter 2 - Fateful encounter

One day, a special alarm was inititated. An Inkling was caught fumbling with some machinery inside a confidential warehouse outside from the main Octarian base. Finn was assigned to confront the intruder. It was the first time Finn saw an actual Inkling physically, so he was on guard the entire time to not let his curiosity make him vulnerable. Finn attempted to interview the Inkling, who was none other than Dylan, but was not able to communicate effectively. He die not view Dylan as a threat to justify a more direct or even violent approach, so he resulted in contacting his colleagues and request someone with better Inkling skills. During the wait for a suitable translator, Dylan began to make some weird noises that quickly got Finns attention. The sounds he was making, were weirdly harmonius sounding and Finn enjoyed listening to them. His curiousty eased up his serious demeanor and weakened his guard for the first time and he questioned Dylan about his doings. Dylan explained that he was making a little bit of music to pass the time - ”music?” Finn responded in confusion.
Dylan in his cell with Finn outside
Dylan in his cell while Finn stands guard outside
The concept of music was unfamiliar to him, but it sounded so nice that he wanted to know more about it. Dylan began to show him how to make a simple tune by using his body. Finn was hesitant and supsicious at first to copy Dylan's move but as the dance went on he became intrigued and fascinated. He never felt this great amount of joy inside as if his whole life changed. He suddenly had a bad conscience keeping Dylan imprisoned as he realized that Dylan was not a bad person at heart and feared that he may lose something that could potentially change someone elses life for the greater. So, Finn chose to release Dylan and help him escape the Ocotling facility. He was fully aware that he would face the consequences for letting an intruder, especially an Inkling, escape but it was a risk worth taking for Finn.

Later, when Finn was confronted about it, he lied that the prisoner managed to escape but included that the intruder did not cause him any harm nor did he tamper with any of the machinery, he was only studying their design. He described Dylan as a peaceful and curious admirer of their technology. His superiors were not satisfied with his explanation as they were only focused about his mistake, maybe even purposefully deyning to accept information that make Inklings seem harmless. Because Finn was a high ranking engineer, a valuable part of the military force that should not be lost, he was punsihed rather tamely compared to if he were a mere warrior. For his irresponsibleness, he was assigned a harder training rotuine with less food and water for many weeks. During his sentence, he never stopped thinking about his encounter with Dylan and the music he heard. It felt like everything that was ever told about Inklings to him was a lie and there can be a way to leave peacefully together. His stricter routine should have caused him more misery but with the newly discovered concept of music, he was able to forget the feeling of hunger, thirst or the pain in his muscles by making music and even attempting to sing for the first time. He shared this discovery with a group of colleages he trusted the most and just like him, they were intrigued. Words spread around rapidly about music and how it is such a fun activity to do and keep oneself motivated during training. Someday it got the attention of some of the more bitter kind of higher ups though. The increased motivation out of the blue seemed great at first but the smiling faces and the enjoyment they got from training with music was quickly stopped before it got out of hand.
?????????
The discovery of music among Finn and his fellow Octolings.
Any form of music was strictly forbidden that day and threatend to be punished severely, to make soldiers clear that war is a subject that should be taken serious. Disappointed that a new fun concept was already stripped away from them, the Octolings resumed their training like always and informed Finn about the new rules. The majority of Octoling warriors started to question their system now.

During this oppressive atmosphere, a lot of Octoling warriors felt uncomfortable on a daily basis. Unable to contain this feeling any longer, they began to sheme an escape plan, specifically for Finn. Helping one Octoling escape was more feasible than multiple in their eyes. Finn's fellow soldier friends helped him escape the military base in hopes that atleast he, who wanted to spread joy in their miserable lives, someday finds peace and lives a joyous, carefree life. Aboard a manipulated boat, Finn slowly drifted away from the Octarian base where he had been raised, waving goodbye to his friends with tears of immense gratitude in his eyes. He promised that someday, he would do anything to save them too.

Chapter 3 - Beginning of a new Life

After a long journey through the sea, he arrived at a large city. Finn found himself a disguise to hide his Octoling features and headed off to explore the colorful town he discovered. He stepped out of his trance of fascination after hearing a familiar voice. It was Dylan and he was being bullied by a group of guys that took away his laptop. Finn quickly stepped in to confront the bullies who dare to mess with the person who inspired him to come this far. Finn did not speak, but his actions and strength were enough to overpower and scare the bullies away. Overjoyed to see Dylan again, Finn greeted him with enourmous excitement. At first Dylan did not recognize his savior but when Finn removed his disguise he was surprised to be quickly dragged away from campus to a way less populated space. Finn explained to Dylan how their encounter changed his life. He started to find peace a more suitable approach than war between our species and music acting as their unifier. His words may have been unclear at some parts with his broken Inkling but his message was delivered cleary to Dylan.
Finn meeting Dylan in the city
Finn reunites with Dylan after escaping the Octarian base.
Finn was lucky to have the chance to see the roomy place Dylan lived in. Dylan's dorm was more like a small house with multiple rooms rather than just one room he had to share with someone else, similar to how Finn had to share a room with multiple colleagues. The most interesting room though was his music room where a lot of different instruments were placed. After Dylan introduced him every instrument and instrcuted him how to play each one, he received permission to experiment around with all the instruments and his music software as Finn wished. Dylan also provided Finn with a lot of books and online courses to study Inkling which would be important if he wants to continue his life here. While Dylan was studying or attending lectures at his university, Finn was learning Inkling and having fun with Dylan's instruments but the most fun he had is when Dylan had freetime to make music together with him.

Both of them would fantasize about an utopia where Inklings and Octolings can live in peace and simply enjoy music. After Dylan was finished with his final exams and received his degree in computer science, both him and Finn decided to make their plans for an utopia come true by officially creating their band titled “Aquaphobia” and with the help of Dylan's father's construction company, they build their own metropolis called "Thalassis" accessible with an underwater metro they built. Later on they partnered with the deepsea metro that requires a secret pass to reach Thalassis.

Chapter 4 - Mass Exodus

Octolings escaping
The Mass Exodus brings Octolings to Thalassis.
Thalassis was officially built but had no residents. Inklings and other marine life was easy to convince through an advertising campaign, so their focus was on the Octolings from Finn's place of birth. They began to draft plans on how to rescue the Octolings and introduce them into their newly build utopia. Their plan was to spread the word to the Octoling base that on a certain date, they will clear ships to allow escape to those who reach the docks without any of the officials noticing. Through Dylans hacking skills, he was able to remove the ship’s restriction programming and self-tracking so they have free control of the ships and all security and observation systems will at first become unstable and in an emergency shut off completely temporarily. On the day of the escape, a lot of Ocotlings received and spread the message to their trusted comrades and headed to the docks that night, the last quarter of refugees were caught sneaking through and the emergency plan had to be deployed. In the end, over half of the Ocotlings that resided in the base managed to escape and move to Thalassis. In the beginning, Finn was concerned that Inklings won’t get along with Ocotlings, but Dylan was quick to dismiss Finn’s worries by assuring him that Inkling won’t care about them being a different species at all. After introducing the two species, Finn and Dylan officially held their first concert as Aquaphobia on their own island in hopes that song and dance will unite and bring peace to 2 species that were originally raised to be enemies.

When not working, Finn occuppies himself with fitness or the construction of machines and weaponry. With his band member Dylan, they occasionally go on secretive missions to other Octarian facilities they've tracked down in hopes to save even more Octolings from their fate. For these rescue missions, the built mechs have often proved to be very useful.
